At Smith Dental Care, only metal-free fillings, crowns and other dentistry is utilized. Metal fillings and crowns, or “silver” fillings and “gold” crowns, have been used extensively in the past; however, these outdated, mercury fillings and metal crowns are suspected to leak and break over time. They are unstable and can cause more problems than they fix. The new, metal-free filling is less likely to leak or break the tooth. Also, mercury fillings are dark colored and unsightly. Our bonding is tooth-colored and appears to be natural. When it comes to crowns, the porcelain crowns form a better seal with the gum than the old crowns, and they resist leaking. Finally, a metal crown next to your beautiful white teeth is unattractive. Our office prefers to use porcelain crowns that are similar to your natural teeth and are virtually undetectable.
